Eidgenössischer Materialprüfungs- und forschungsanstalt (EMPA)

EMPA is the research institute for materials science and technology of the ETH Domain and conducts cutting-edge research for the benefit of the industry and the well-being of society. It specializes in applications, focused research and development, and provides high-level services in the field of sustainable materials science and technology. Its core tasks are innovative collaborations with industry and public institutions, ensuring the safety of people and the environment, knowledge propagation and university-level teaching. 

The Particles-Biology Interactions Laboratory is a research unit of EMPA, which pioneers innovative particle-based solutions for personalized healthcare applications to meet the growing needs of sour society. A team of 25 researchers are active in characterizing, understanding and steering the interaction of particulate materials with human cells or tissues and provides expertise in the interdisciplinary field of particle safety and applications for industry or authorities.
