Oeko-Institut e.V. Institute for Applied Ecology (OEKO)
Oeko-Institut is a leading European research and consultancy institute working for a sustainable future. Founded in 1977, employs more than 170 staff, including about 120 researchers at three locations in Germany – Freiburg, Darmstadt and Berlin. They complete approximately 380 projects each year, tackling both national and international issues. Since it was founded the institute has been working on an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary basis – with partners from industry, research and civil society – in cooperative projects and network structures, whenever appropriate to the research issues at hand.
OEKO has contributed to the sustainable development and governance of nano-enabled products and applications over the last 10 years. The institute´s staff has experiences in providing consulting services to public authorities and to local actors and NGOs, as well as participating in international organisations (e.g. OECD, ISO, CEN) on the technical and environmental assessment of policies, standards and methods in the context of nanotechnologies.
