Transgero Ltd. (TGO)

Transgero Limited (TGO) is a University of Limerick Campus Company and was formed by academics in the University of Limerick in 2014 in order to exploit new underwriting processes developed by the University, particularly in the emerging risks field. As an independent SME, TGO has increased flexibility in terms of exploiting research, and subsequent commercial opportunities.

TGO’s initial work has been in the creation of quantitative tools that allow insurers to access the risk posed by emerging technologies. Emerging technologies such as nanotechnology pose singular problems for underwriters as, by definition, there is little or no part data on which to create standard actuarial models. TGO has created a mixture of both qualitative and quantitative models to capture incomplete or evening missing data into a software model that estimates risk with confidence intervals. This includes legal and ethical expertise.
